These skid plates are made from a custom blend of ultra-high molecular weight polymer, measuring 1/2" thick and weighing less than traditional metal or aluminum skid plates. They absorb shocks without denting or corroding like metal skids due to their lack of "impact memory." Trail Armor was the first to introduce skid plates with formed leading edges, protecting frame edges and wheel wells from blunt impacts and facilitating obstacle sliding. The extended side panels of their skids also double as slider nerfs, safeguarding the vulnerable sides and rocker panels of the vehicle.

Compared with other manufacturers, Trail Armor's skid set provides comprehensive coverage, including slider nerfs and protection for the rocker panel. The skid plates come in easy-to-install panels that cover the entire vehicle, including the front and rear differential. They also feature front and rear bash plates and an extended front panel for added protection, including the radiator cowling. Unlike stacked skids with hard edges, Trail Armor's lap-jointed panels create a smooth sliding surface. Access holes for service points and oil drains simplify maintenance, while strategically placed drain holes allow debris to wash out without removing the skid plates. Individual panels can be removed if needed, without detaching the entire skid plate. Recessed mounting holes protect fasteners, and all kits include corrosion-resistant hardware and installation instructions with photos. Installation videos are available on their website, and the skid plates are compatible with Yamaha front and rear bumpers.
